You’ve sent out the invitations, you’ve got the DJ selected and now it’s time to get the food items set in stone. But before you can start choosing appetizers and main course options, you need to know which type of reception you’re going to have for your big day. Believe it or not, it will play a role in the types of foods you should be serving.
You’ve got enough to worry about, so we’ve made it simple for you. See below for appropriate menu items for 4 types of receptions:
Sit-Down Dinner
Choice of appetizers: seafood salad (shrimp, calamari, scungilli, octopus and mussels with lemon and extra-virgin olive oil), fresh figs draped with prosciutto, garden salad.
Main course: choice of Salmon broiled and seasoned with garlic and breadcrumbs, baby rack of lamb coated in fresh herbs and spices and served with fresh seasonal veggies.
Buffet-Style
- You’ve got a lot more to work with here. Choose any or all of the following:
- Roasted potatoes with dill and golden caviar
- Spinach dip with pita chips
- Artichoke mousse puffs
- Spanakopita
- Smoked salmon canapes
- Seafood dip
- Mini crab cakes
- Antipasti display (fresh mozzarella, grilled eggplant, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives)
- Pasta station
- Carving station (flank steak and turkey breast)
Cocktail Party
We recommend again, plenty of options. You can go with rosemary-toasted baby lamb chops, chicken satays with peanut sauce, chicken fajitas, mini lobster rolls, miso-glazed cod and authentic dumplings with a variety of dipping sauces.
Backyard Barbecue
If you prefer slow-smoked, tender meats this will make your dreams come true. The main courses should include beef brisket, pork spare ribs, smoked sausage, pulled pork and/or barbecue chicken. And for sides, serve barbecue beans, coleslaw, potato salad, cornbread and macaroni and cheese.
No matter which type of reception you choose, leave the food and drinks to the culinary experts at David’s Soundview Catering! Great food presented and prepared with care is our philosophy for producing fabulous events.
