In the wake of a new year, resolutions are all the buzz. It’s at this time we vow to eat better, save money, join a gym and travel somewhere new. What are some of your resolutions? What do you hope to achieve? If healthy eating is on your list, we’re here to offer a few tips and recipes on how to start the new year off on a healthy, yet tasty foot.
Fuel up on protein
Having a lean protein at meal time is the perfect way to feel full longer and be satisfied at the end of each meal. Try adding chicken, turkey breast or fish to your salads and cut out any fried or fatty additions. Try this easy Chicken and Strawberry Salad or Shrimp with with Watercress, Feta, Radish and Mint!
Say no to takeout
Although takeout is quick and easy on weeknights after a long day at the office, a healthy meal made at home in your kitchen can be ready before your chinese or pizza is ready for pick up. Recipes such as this Heavenly Hummus Wrap or Spicy Cauliflower Stir-Fry can be on your table in under twenty minutes! Also, make it a point to try out new, exciting, and healthy recipes a few times per month. This will get you motived to get in the kitchen!
Swap when you can
Not all food is created equal. You don’t necessarily have to cut out food groups entirely, but you can make a few sensible swaps. Healthy swaps include wheat pasta instead of white, quinoa instead of white rice, avocado in place of mayo, greek yogurt instead of sour cream, and mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes!
Spice it up
Often times, most people don’t want to eat vegetables because they are ‘boring’ or flavorless. There are several (healthy) ways you can kick up the flavor and taste of boring ol’ veggies for the new year! Try this delicious and simple Roasted Asparagus or Sauteed Brussels Sprouts!
