You’re having your friends over for a summertime bbq this weekend and you’re in charge of the grill. You can’t mess this one up or your buddies will never let you down. We’re going to let you in on a few grill master secrets and trust us when we tell you your next barbecue might be the best one to date!

  1. The right heat setting is key. You can really mess up a great steak by cooking it low and slow and the opposite is true for pork. We recommend searing steaks on high heat for just a few minutes on each side while we suggest going low and slow for pork butts and roasts. What do we mean by low and slow? Low heat using a slow cooking method – yes, it might actually take a couple of hours so leave yourself some time.
  2. Making your own burgers from ground beef? Mix in your seasonings as desired but be sure not to over mix the meat. The more you knead and press with your hands the more likely it is for the burger to dry out while it’s on the grill.
  3. Cooking up fresh veggies or delicate foods like fish? Use a perforated grill pan to prevent them from falling through the grates. The last thing you need is to lose half of your meal!
  4. Using brown sugar in a DIY rub? Make sure it’s moist so it mixes well with the other spices. If it’s old and hard, put it in a bowl and cover with a damp paper towel. The moisture from the towel will help soften it up again.
  5. Look for marbling. When you head out to the supermarket or butcher shop, look at each piece of meat closely. Marbling is paramount when it comes to selecting the perfect cut.

Now that you’ve perfected your grilling technique, your friends and family members may never leave! But that’s quite alright – who doesn’t enjoy good company?
