Let’s face it, not everyone wants to be a fire-breathing dragon. On the same note, not everyone can handle the 5-alarm fire that some hot sauces produce in their mouth or in their stomach. While some can’t wait to get their hands on the “world’s hottest” peppers, others simply want to enhance their food with a little extra mouth-watering flavor. If you fall into the latter category, we’ve got a few “hot” sauces that won’t actually set your mouth ablaze.

Black Bean Bases

While some hot sauces on the market can just about make your eyes tear from the color of the product alone, black bean based sauces and salsas tend to be on the milder side. Most of the time, you’ll get some slight spice, but the base of the sauce and some of the other key ingredients (other than peppers) will overpower the heat.

Fruit-Infused Hot Sauces

Similar to the black bean bases, fruit-infused hot sauces, or any alternate variation of a fruit-flavored hot sauce won’t be as spicy as those solely focused on peppers. Whether it has a hint of apple, mango or pineapple, these fruits tend to add a bit of sweetness to a sauce that otherwise might be all heat.

Miscellaneous Accompaniments

If the first two categories of milder hot sauces just aren’t appealing to your taste buds, you may want to look for a few other ingredients that tend to put out some of the fire that is a regular hot sauce. We recommend trying flavors like maple, avocado or bacon if you’re looking for a sauce that isn’t lacking in the serious flavor department.
