Not every backyard party needs to include large racks of ribs, pounds of pulled pork or slabs of smoked brisket. In fact, lots of party guests actually prefer small plates, finger foods or passed hors d’oeuvres rather than sitting down and eating a large meal. Why? Well, they get to try more options, for starters, and lots of the time small bites are easier to eat!
Yellowfin Tuna Tacos: you’ll want to use sushi grade tuna for this one, and we recommend serving them with scallions, lemon aioli and avocado in a wonton cup or small taco shell.
Petite Lobster Rolls: take that famous lobster roll you know and love and shrink it down a bit. Just be sure to use a toasted, buttered roll and a celery remoulade for added flair.
Smoked Salmon Flatbread: serve with roasted shallots, herb creme fraiche and watercress and we’ll bet you dive back in for seconds!
Chilled Jumbo Shrimp: there’s nothing too special about this one — just be sure to make sure the shrimp is served cold. You can incorporate a homemade cocktail sauce, champagne mustard, or both, for dipping.
Beef Carpaccio Toast: take your favorite cut of beef, cook it up rare and serve it with a blue cheese vinaigrette on a toasted crostini or fresh Italian bread cuts grilled with olive oil.
Mini Crab Cakes: you can serve them with or without slider buns, just don’t forget the lemon garlic aioli.
Roasted Lamb Lollipops: they’re bite-sized and delicious when cooked properly and served with wholegrain mustard shallot sauce or mint jelly.
