3 Mouth-Watering Ways To Enjoy Lobster Rolls This Summer

While some people are real sticklers on the subject, others just can’t wait to bite into a lobster roll, no matter the style. We have to agree that no matter how they’re prepared, lobsters are one of our favorite things to eat outside on a warm summer day, especially when paired with a glass of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or even a cool, crisp beer. But back to the topic at hand – there are three main categories of lobster rolls and we’re going to break it down for you so you know exactly what you’re getting the next time you frequent a seafood shack, a clam house or anything of the sort!

Maine Lobster Rolls

It may come as no surprise that this type of lobster roll comes piled high with crustaceans from, you guessed it, Maine.

Chunks of lobster meat are tossed lightly in mayonnaise and is then piled onto a “New England” style roll, served cold. It may look like a standard hot dog roll at first glance, but this style of bread is actually flat on both sides which makes for a much better grilling in butter scenario.

New England Lobster Rolls

This type of lobster roll is quite similar to the Maine lobster roll, but there’s a bit more color going on here. Chunks of lobster are tossed in mayo, along with celery, chives, and possibly even lettuce.

This lobster roll variant is also served cold, and may also be referred to as a “lobster salad roll.”

Connecticut Lobster Rolls

Here’s where the major differences come into play. Connecticut lobster rolls are served warm — piled high with lobster sauteed in clarified butter, no mayo.

They’re often served with a side of fries or potato chips and are also known as “hot lobster rolls.”
