Have you heard about one of the latest crazes in the culinary world – cooking with Himalayan salt blocks? Why would you want to cook with a large block of salt? The answer is quite simple. It will take your food to a whole new level – one that will leave your taste buds in awe.

What is a Himalayan Salt Block?

Quite simply, it’s a large block or brick made of pure pink salt. Why are people using it for cooking and serving? Well, it provides a complex and delicious salt flavor without overpowering your food. Aside from that, they’re super easy to use and maintain and well, it looks like you know what you’re doing when you serve up a nice meal on one.

Try it on the Grill

The next time you decide to cook your favorite cut of steak, try it out on a salt block. Sprinkle your T-bone, filet or ribeye with pepper, garlic and olive oil and let it sit for a few minutes. In the meantime, take the salt block out back to the grill (it must be fully heated before using). If it’s not hot enough, it can oversalt and undercook your food.

Start with the heat on low, add the salt block to the grates and slowly raise the temperature. Once it’s hot enough, place the meat right on top and you’ll be on your way to a delicious smoky and mildly salty flavor.

Try it out of the Freezer

Salt blocks will stay warm for hours on the grill, and they’ll stay cold for just as long. This makes them perfect for serving things like sushi-grade salmon or tuna. Again, sprinkle fish with your favorite seasonings or sauces, place on the block for a few minutes and enjoy!
